Working with Type Assignment Panel

You can associate a text frame in Adobe Illustrator to a combination of a GS1 type, sequence number, and a language sequence. This can be done without connecting to 3DEXPERIENCE platform or without existing copy artwork elements or a generated POA.

This task shows you how to:

Create Type Assignment

You can create an association between a text frame and a selected GS1 type, sequence number, and language sequence. You can also associate an image frame to a graphic element.

  1. In Adobe Illustrator, select Window > 3DEXPERIENCE Copy and Artwork > Type Assignment.
The Type Assignment panel appears. The Type Assignment panel lists all GS1 types.
  2. In Adobe Illustrator, select one or more text frames to map to a copy element, or select one or more image frames to map to a graphic element.
  3. In the Type Assignment panel, select a GS1 type and enter numerical values for Sequence Number and Language Sequence fields. If you have selected an image frame, select a graphic element and enter the sequence number.
  4. Click Map Element to associate the selected frame to the GS1 type selected in the Type Assignment panel.

The selected frame is associated to the GS1 type with the sequence number and language sequence selected in the Type Assignment panel. A gray border is shown around the text frame that is mapped to the GS1 type.

You can associate a GS1 type with the same instance sequence and language sequence to multiple text frames simultaneously or individually. After you associate a GS1 type to a text frame, select another text frame, select the same GS1 type, enter the instance sequence and language sequence values, and click Map Element. You can repeat this process to associate multiple text frames.

Remove Type Assignment

You can remove type assignments.

  1. In Adobe Illustrator, select Window > 3DEXPERIENCE Copy and Artwork > Type Assignment.
The Type Assignment panel appears. The Type Assignment panel lists all GS1 types.
  2. In Adobe Illustrator, select a text frame or an image frame that is associated.
  3. In Type Assignment panel, click Un-Map Element.
Note: You can remove the mapping even if you have modified the values of the Sequence Number and the Language Sequence fields.

The association between the text frame and its mapped GS1 type is removed.

Map GS1 Type to Multiple Text Frames

You can map a GS1 type to multiple text frames.

  1. Select two or more text frames.
  2. Link the text frames using Adobe Illustrator's threaded text feature.
  3. Select any one of the threaded text frames.
  4. From the Type Assignment panel, select a GS1 type.
  5. Click Map.
The GS1 type is mapped to the text frames. The content of the text frames is replaced with default text. You can enter the required content in the text frame. The header of the text frame shows the following:
    • GS1 type
    • Instance sequence
    • Local sequence
The borders of the mapped text frames are shown in gray color.
  6. Optional: You can edit the content of the text frames.
    Notes:
    • If you select all the text frames split mapped to a GS1 type and click Unmap, the split mapping is removed.
    • If you select only one text frame split mapped to a GS1 type and click Unmap, a message appears asking if you want to remove the split mapping. Click Yes to confirm.
    • If you delete a text frame that is split mapped to a GS1 type along with other text frames, the entire split mapping is unmapped.
