Mapping a Copy Element across Multiple Text Frames

You can map a copy element across multiple text frames and split the content of the copy element to appear in those text frames. You have to split the content such that the aggregated content from the text frames must match the content of the copy element.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Associate a POA artwork assembly to an artwork file document or download a POA artwork assembly and its linked artwork file document.
  • Ensure that there are text frames in the artwork file.

Map Copy Element

You can map a copy element to multiple text frames and the split the content such that it appears across the text frames.

  1. Select two or more text frames.
  2. Link the text frames using Adobe Illustrator's threaded text feature.
  3. Select any one of the threaded text frames.
  4. From the Artwork Assembly panel, select a copy element.
  5. Click Map.
The copy element is mapped to the text frames. The content of the text frames is replaced with the entire content of the copy element. The header of the text frame shows the following:
    • Copy element type
    • Instance sequence
    • Local sequence
The borders of the mapped text frames are shown in red color. If you add another text area to the threaded text area, it is added and the content is distributed. You can add a maximum of 25 single text areas to form a threaded text area.
  6. Edit the text frames such that the combined content of the text frames in the order of selection match the content of the copy element.
The borders of the mapped text frames change to blue color when the contents match.

Remove Copy Element Mapping

You can remove the mapping between a copy element and split mapped text frames.

  1. Select all the text frames split mapped to a copy element.
  2. In the Artwork Assembly panel, click Unmap.
The copy element and the text frames are unmapped. Other split-mapping instances of the copy element remain mapped.
    Notes:
    • If you select only one text frame split mapped to a copy element and click Unmap, a message appears asking if you want to remove the split mapping. Click Yes to confirm.
    • If you delete a text frame that is split mapped to a copy element along with other text frames, the entire split mapping is unmapped.
