Publishing and Collaboration Flows

The Connector for Altium Designer provides two flow levels to manage the design in 3DEXPERIENCE.

This page discusses:

Publishing Flow

The publishing flow, Flow Level 1, lets you manage the entire project including schematic and layout data as a single business object. Use this mode when there is a single designer responsible for both the schematic and layout of the design.

The publishing flow lets you save Altium Designer PCB Project Archive and Altium Designer Variant to 3DEXPERIENCE. The Altium Designer PCB Project Archive contains the complete design project with Schematic and PCB. This flow supports version control so you can manage multiple versions of the project.

When using version control, the project tree shows an icon next to the object name:

  • means that no modification to the version exists.
  • means that modifications exist and are not committed to the version.

The Connector for Altium Designer recognizes any modifications to the version when you save a project. For more information, see Saving Projects in 3DEXPERIENCE. If a modification is found, the app shows a warning. You can choose Abort to quit the save process, or Continue to save the project.

When you save the project, the complete design project including Schematic and PCB are packed into a single Altium Designer PCB Project Archive and checked into 3DEXPERIENCE.

Collaboration Flow

The collaboration flow, Flow Level 3, lets you manage schematic data separately from the layout data. Use this mode when different designers are responsible for the schematic design and the layouts.

The standard collaboration lets you save Altium Designer PCB Project, Variant, Schematic, and PCB to 3DEXPERIENCE. You can select any object to save to 3DEXPERIENCE.
