Creating a CSV Mapping File

You can create a comma-separated values (CSV) mapping file to import an external part list.

  1. Open the Preferences dialog box.
  2. Click 3DEXPERIENCE BOM Management in the contents pane.
  3. Click External Partlist.
  4. Click Start Wizard.
    The wizard displays the Template Selection dialog box.
  5. From the list, select the template to use as a master definition to define the rows that display in the BOM Editor.
  6. Click Next.
    The wizard displays the Source Selection dialog box.
  7. Choose how the wizard defines the initial mapping file.

    You can choose one of these options:

    An empty definitionStart with an empty CSV file. You then need to enter all column definitions.
    Header of CSV FileClick Browse to select an existing CSV file. The selected file becomes a reference to the master definition. The file does not need to contain any data, but it does need column definitions.
    Existing importer/exporterFrom the list, select an existing mapping template.

  8. Click Next.
    The wizard displays the CSV Mapping Configuration dialog box. If you selected either Header of CSV File or Existing importer/exporter, the columns defined for the selected option are loaded into the CSV column name column in the dialog box.

    The first column contains BOM attributes determined by the template you selected in Step 5. The second column contains a list of the columns from the CSV file.

  9. For each attribute, select the CSV column that maps to that attribute. If you started with an empty definition, enter the column name.

    Each list includes <auto> and <ignore> options. Select <auto> to map that attribute to an empty field, and select <ignore> to ignore that attribute (it is not mapped to anything).

    For attributes set to <auto>, the BOM Editor tries to match the attribute to a column in the CSV file. For example, if the CSV file contains a column titled Name, the BOM Editor matches that column to the Name attribute.

  10. Click Next.
    The wizard displays the Importer Definition dialog box.
  11. Provide a name for the mapping file. If you select an existing name from the list, that importer/exporter mapping file is overwritten when you click Finish.
  12. Choose where to store the mapping file:

    You can choose the global store (shared by all users) or the user store (only used by the administrator).

  13. Click Finish.
