Design in Assembly Context

The Assembly Design app can be used in conjunction with the Part Design app to design a part in context.

In an assembly you can design parts from scratch or reshape them, and reuse the design of another part. In this last case, associative links between parts are created.

These links can be geometric links and are then referred to as External References or parametric links, then referred to as External Parameters in the tree.

Assembly Design provides a large range of commands or options to manage those links.

  • Keep link with selected object, this option lets you maintain the links between external references, copied elements for example, and their origins when you are editing these elements, see External Reference.

    This option recommends that your design is correctly updated. In addition, using this method makes the app able to detect an update cycle in your design: a part A designed from a part B, the part B designed from a part C, and the part C designed from the part A.

  • Copy of external elements to update parts outside of the assembly context.
  • Automatic synchronization during update operations, or manual synchronization.
  • Activate/Deactivate link.
  • Publication: to reuse existing designs and manage links.
  • Copy Break/Link/New From to quickly reuse a part.
