About the Engineering Connection Definition Dialog Box

The Constraints tab of the Engineering Connection Definition panel allows you to specify the constraint specifications defining an engineering connection.

This page discusses:

Predefined Type

The engineering connection type is defined by a combination of Driving constraints and a Controlled constraint.

A constraint can be deactivated: a deactivated symbol (red parentheses) appears on the upper left corner of the constraint image. In this case, it is not taken into account during the Update.

When an engineering connection type is specified, only specific constraints are allowed to defined the engineering connection. Templates for specific constraints are proposed in the Constraints.

Predefined engineering connection types are:

  • Cable
  • Cylindrical
  • Fix
  • Free
  • Gear
  • Planar
  • Point Curve
  • Point Surface
  • Prismatic
  • Projection
  • Rack
  • Revolute
  • Rigid
  • Roll Curve
  • Screw
  • Slide Curve
  • Spherical
  • Symmetry
  • Universal

Engineering Connection Lock

The engineering connection type can be locked to detect type inconsistencies during the editing of an engineering connection.

  • Lock: the engineering connection type is locked and available constraints are filtered according to the engineering connection templates. When several templates exist, the definition of the first one is suggested.
  • Unlock: the engineering connection type is unlocked, and the Type box is updated according to modifications made to the set of constraints.

Constraints

The engineering connection is defined by a set of constraints.

According to the selected engineering connection type:

  • Out of User Defined, Use template displays a set of constraints, including predefined constraint modes. It also lists the required geometric elements complying with the selected engineering connection type.

See Templates for Engineering Connection Types for more information.

  • User Defined, a set of constraints is proposed
    • Contact
    • Coincidence
    • Distance

Select the Shows all possible constraints ... to access to more constraint types in compliance with your selection.

Constraints and their supports are displayed vertically.
