Working with Experiment Panes

Working with Formulas

You can link an experiment to one Formulation Design formula. You can only add materials to a Formulation pane in an experiment created using the Formulation experiment type.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Only users with the Formulation Designer role can work with formulas in experiments. You can only create and remove links between an experiment and a formula if you can edit the experiment.

Link a Formula

You can link a formula to an experiment to automatically create a section in the Write-Up pane describing the formulation procedure, with links to the formula's materials.

With the Formulation pane of your experiment visible, do one of the following:
  • Drag the heading of an open formula from Formulation Design into the Formulation pane.
Note: You can drag a formula from a Formulation Design either in the same dashboard tab, in a different tab on the same dashboard, or from a separate browser window.
  • Drag a formula result from a Search Results panel into the Formulation pane.
  • In the Formulation pane, click Select, choose the formula to use, and click OK.

The formula is linked to the experiment and a new text section contains the processing instructions of the formula, including links to the required materials. You can click the name of each material to open it in the Materials Management app.

Edit a Procedure Created from a Formula

You can edit the processing instructions and materials used in a formula's text section the Write-Up pane.

  1. For an experiment with a linked formula, locate the text section in the Write-Up for the formula's procedure.
  2. Edit the text section as required.
    • Edit the description of the processing instructions.
    • Edit the materials. Type @ and select the required material you require or begin typing its name to filter the list.

Remove a Formula Link

You can remove the link between an experiment and a formula.

  1. For an experiment with a linked formula, click in the Formulation pane.
  2. Confirm removal of the link.

The link between the experiment and the formula is removed. The corresponding text section in the Write-Up pane remains unchanged.

Review a Formula

You can view the full details of a formula in the Formulation Design app

  1. For an experiment with a linked formula, click .
  2. In Formulation Design locate and open the linked formula.
