Importing Legacy Experiments

You can use Scientific Notebook to view active experiments that you manage in BIOVIA Workbook or BIOVIA Notebook products, if experiment collectors for these BIOVIA products are installed.

The experiment collectors import new and updated experiments to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and index them so that you can find them by using its standard search features. The Scientific Notebook Home page lists the imported experiments alongside experiments created directly in Scientific Notebook. For an imported experiment, the Preview pane displays some information about it, includes the PDF experiment report, and provides a link to open the experiment in its source BIOVIAapplication.

The collectors for BIOVIA Notebook and Workbook are triggered at different points in the experiment lifecycles. The size of the experiments impacts the amount of time required to collect it. It can take several minutes to collect a large experiment and import it to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

BIOVIA Notebook

The collector for BIOVIA Notebook imports experiments after you submit them and they are approved. When your new experiment or new section in an existing experiment is approved, BIOVIA Notebook creates a new experiment part. The experiment collector imports a corresponding new version of the experiment to reflect the new part.

You can view the imported version for each BIOVIA Notebook experiment part on the Scientific Notebook Preview pane.

BIOVIA Workbook

By default, the collector for BIOVIA Workbook imports experiments after you check them in. However, you can use this collector to import experiments at other points in your workflow. When the collection service imports a version of an experiment, the new version replaces the previous version.
