Experiment Page

Scientific Notebook displays the Experiment page immediately after you create a new experiment and whenever you open an experiment

The Experiment page is divided into an experiment top bar, header, and experiment description panes. You can close, maximize, and collapse each experiment description pane.

The left part of the header contains experiment information.

Field	Description
Title (Experiment Id)	The descriptive title provided by the experiment Author and its automatically generated identifier.
Experiment Details	The high-level information for the experiment, such as the scientist, business unit, department, and plant along with the creation and modification dates.
Objective	The objective of the experiment, generated by combining the experiment type and its project.

The right part of the header provides actions for working with the experiment.

Action	Description
	Expands the experiment header to show all fields and actions.
	Collapses most of the experiment header to show only the title and actions.
Lifecycle 	An icon indicating the lifecycle state of the experiment.  In Progress: an experiment that has started.  Pending Review: a defined experiment ready for review and signing.  Completed: an experiment all of whose tasks are complete.  Inactive: an experiment that has been stopped.  Archived: a previously finalized experiment that has been archived.  Opens a list of available transitions for the experiment and the user according to their role. Note: Status is always In Progress for Scientific Notebook experiments, and Imported for experiments imported from BIOVIA Notebook and BIOVIA Workbook.
 Properties	Opens the Properties pane for editing the experiment's basic definition.
 User Assistance	Opens the User Assistance panel.

All panes in all experiment types have some common options.

Action	Description
	Expands the pane to fill the Scientific Notebook app.
	Collapses the pane.

Use the Write-Up pane to document your procedure, observations, and conclusions. The top of the Write-Up pane reports the number of sections it contains. For more information, see Describing the Experiment.

The Write-Up pane has a toolbar that contains:

Action	Description
 Add Section	Adds a new text section.

 collapses each section. When a section is collapsed,  reports the number of file attachments it contains.

Text Section

Each text section has a title and a body of text, separated by dates reporting its times of creation and last modification.

Text section toolbars provide the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
	Opens a file browser to select a file to attach.
	Deletes the text section.

The Formulation pane is only available for formulation experiments.

The formulation table toolbar provides the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
 Select	Searches for a formula that you can select to use in this experiment.
	Reports the number and name of the linked formula.
	Removes the link between the experiment and the formula.
	Opens the Formulation Design app.

The Materials pane is only available for generic experiments.

The materials table toolbar and menu provide the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
 Select	Searches for a material that you can select to use in this experiment.
	Deletes the selected rows from the materials table.
	Provides options to choose how to add more materials to the experiment.
 Menu	Provides options for each row in the materials table:  Get Material Details: opens the material in Materials Management.  Remove Material: deletes the row.

The Reaction Scheme pane is only available for synthetic chemistry experiments. For more information, see Working with Reactions and Stoichiometry.

When there is no reaction, the reaction scheme background provides the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
 Drag and drop a chemistry file	Loads a reaction from a chemistry file that you drop in the reaction scheme background.
 Browse for a chemistry file	Opens a file browser for you to choose a chemistry file containing a reaction to load.
 Draw a new reaction	Opens the Pipette Sketcher for you to draw a reaction scheme.

When there is a reaction, the toolbar below the reaction scheme provides the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
 Edit	Opens the Pipette Sketcher for you to edit the reaction scheme.
 Reset	Clears the existing reaction scheme and resets the panel to an empty background.
 Import from a chemistry file	Opens a file browser for you to choose a chemistry file containing a reaction to use to replace the existing reaction scheme.

The Stoichiometry pane is only available for synthetic chemistry experiments. For more information, see Working with Reactions and Stoichiometry.

The stoichiometry table toolbar and menu provide the actions to work with the section.

Action	Description
 Remove Materials	Removes the selected rows from the stoichiometry table and the corresponding components from the reaction scheme in the Reaction Scheme pane.
 Add Material	Adds a new empty row at the end of the stoichiometry table.
 Menu	Provides options for each row in the stoichiometry table:  Remove Material: deletes the row.

The context menu for the header row of the stoichiometry table provides options for configuring the display of the table. For more information, see Configure the Stoichiometry Display.

Action	Description
 Pin Column	Offers the choice to pin the column to the right or left of the table, or not to pin it.
 Size Column to Fit	Resizes the column to the width of its content.
 Size All Columns to Fit	Resizes all the columns to the width of their content.
Custom Views...	Opens the Custom Views dialog box where you can configure views of the stoichiometry table that suit your requirements.
