Requesting Tasks

When scientists work together to perform tasks, a requester can create a task plan with tasks and samples, assigning work to other members. The requester can work with the analyst who performs the tasks and a laboratory manager who monitors progress.

Requester

If you are a scientist requiring analysis of one or more of your samples, you can create use a task plan to request the work.

  1. Create the task plan.
  2. Optional: Add the planned samples to the task plan.
  3. Optional: Collect the actual samples in the laboratory.
  4. Add tasks from activities or from an activity plan to the task plan.
  5. Request that an analyst executes the tasks.

You can find your task plan in the My Task Plans list on the Laboratory Operations home page.

Analyst

If you are an analyst, when a scientist requests that you perform one or more tasks, you can see your requests for work in the My Tasks and Available Tasks lists on the Laboratory Operations home page.

  1. Locate a task that you need to execute.
  2. Optional: Create your own task plan and import the tasks assigned to you.
  3. Perform the tasks assigned to you.
  4. Add the task results from:
    • The values recorded in a recipe.
    • Direct equipment data.
    • Manual entered values.
  5. Optional: Create a review task.
  6. Complete the task.

Laboratory Manager

If you are a laboratory manager, you can see all unassigned tasks requiring work in the Available Tasks list on the Laboratory Operations home page. When you open this list, you can:

  • Execute tasks yourself.
  • Assign tasks to analysts.
  • Assign tasks to yourself.
  • Abandon tasks.
  • Split tasks.
  • Unassign, recall, or transfer tasks to another group.
