Generating 2D Views to use in CATIA Drafting

Generate 2D Views lets you generate two-dimensional views of a building project or BIM model which you can use in CATIA Drafting.

  1. In the Generate 2D Views dialog box, choose one of the following framing plans:
    OptionDescription
Architectural Generates a floor plan that cuts a horizontal section about three feet above the story elevation and looks downward at the cut walls, doors, space, and other building elements. The view is suitable for architects and interior designers.
Structural Generates a structural framing plan that cuts a horizontal section about three feet above the story elevation and displays symbolic structural members above. This output is suitable for structural engineers.
  2. To set the number of sheets, in the Generate 2D Views dialog box, select one of the following:
    • Single Sheet: Generates all selected views in one sheet.
    • Multiple Sheets: Generates one view per sheet for all selected views.
  3. To change the scale of the CATIA drawing, in the Generate 2D Views dialog box, in the Scale box, specify a value greater than zero.

By default, the system generates CATIA drawings at a scale of 1:1.

  4. To generate two-dimensional plan views:
    1. In the Generate 2D Views dialog box, click Select planes.
    2. In the tree, click each plane that you want to include.

Note: A single CATIA drawing containing a sheet with one view for every selected story is created.

  5. Select the Whole structure check box to create a drawing for whole product structure.
  6. Expand Elevation, and select the corresponding check box for each view.
  7. In the Elevations box, one or more planes to generate elevation views.
  8. In the Sections box, select one or more planes to generate section drawings.
  9. Expand Isometric, and select the corresponding check box for each view.

    • NE Isometric is from the Northeast side of the building.
    • NW Isometric is from the Northwest side of the building.
    • SE Isometric is from the Southeast side of the building.
    • SW Isometric is from the Southwest side of the building.

  10. To include the current view, select the Include Current View check box.
  11. To create an elevation datum symbol, in the Generate 2D Views dialog box, do the following.
    1. Expand Datum Symbol.
    2. To select the type of datum symbol, in the datum symbol toolbar, select one of the following:

      • Circular Datum Symbol : The circular datum symbol displays the name of the selected face or reference plane, and the elevation.
      • Triangular Datum Symbol : The triangular datum symbol displays only the elevation of the selected face or reference plane.

    3. To set the location of the datum symbol, in the datum toolbar, select one of the following:

      • Left Side : The datum symbol is created on the left side of the elevation drawing.
      • Right Side : The datum symbol is created on the right side of the elevation drawing.
      • Both Sides : The datum symbol is created on both sides of the elevation drawing.

    4. In the Datum Elevations box, select a plane to create the datum symbols.
  12. In the Generate 2D Views dialog box, click OK.
