About Piles

In building construction, piles are driven into the ground below the foundation to transfer the weight of the building deep into the subsoil.

Piles are useful at building sites with weak, or poor, soil condition. They are also used when a building is especially large.

A pile arrangement contains a number of load bearing piles and a pile cap. The pile cap provides a platform for the foundation and is connected to the piles. With the Pile Arrangement function, you can simultaneously create the pile cap and its attached piles. Buildings and Civil Structures Design provides several pile arrangement selections. Selections vary in the number of piles in a single pile arrangement and the shape of the pile cap. With the preview, available in the 3D area, you can see any or all of the pile selections before making your final pile arrangement selection.

Once you add pile arrangements, you can edit an individual pile in a pile arrangement or a group of piles in the same arrangement. For each pile in the pile arrangement, you can change its:

  • Shape
  • Pile width
  • Embedded pile in the cap
  • Rotation
  • Raking angle
  • Length
