Using a Cope Tool

You can cope one or more catalog members together to prevent interference between them.


Before you begin: Open a building containing catalog members.
  1. From the Steel Detailing section of the action bar, click Cope Tool .
    The building is hidden, the catalog members are shown as transparent, and their neutral axes are displayed.
  2. Select the neutral axis of the catalog member that is to be used to cut another member.
  3. Select the neutral axis of the catalog members that are to be cut.
  4. In the Inward offset box, specify the inward offset for the cut from inner face of the flange.
  5. In the Outward offset box, specify the outward offset for the cut from outer face of the flange.
  6. In the Web offset box, specify the offset for the cut from the face of the web.
  7. In the Tip offset box, specify the offset for the cut at the end of the flange.
  8. In the Fillet radius box, specify the radius of the fillet for the cut at the end of the flange.
  9. In the Chamfer length box, specify the chamfer length for the cut at the intersection of the web and the flange.
  10. Click Ok .

    Recommendation: Coping a member changes the length of the member. It is therefore recommended to cope a member before positioning other steel detailing features on the member.
