Adding Grid Labels

You can add grid labels to lines or curves in a Building Grid. The grid labels help to identify the position of the structural members such as the columns, beams, braces, and beam patterns.

Before you begin: Create a Building Grid.
Tip: To obtain a better view when the building geometry competes with the grid geometry, from the Building section of the action bar, click Show/Hide Building .

  1. For each grid label, from the Building Grid, click a gridline.
  2. From the context toolbar, click Building Grid Labels .
  3. To assign a single grid label to a polyline, select all the lines in the polyline.
  4. In the Label box, specify the grid label.
    For example, enter A.
  5. To create incrementing grid labels, perform the following steps:
    1. Select a grid line.
      A grid label is created.
    2. To create another grid label in a sequence, click Create label and then select another grid line.

      Notes:
      • The grid label name is incremented automatically based on the last used grid label name.
      • The value entered in the Label name box is used for the currently selected grid line.

Tip: You can press Enter and then select another grid line.

    3. Repeat the above step to create the next grid label in a sequence.
  6. Expand Extension Line and perform the following steps:

    1. In the Length box, specify the distance.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    2. In the Gap box, specify the value of the gap between the end of the gridline and start of the grid label extension line.
    3. In the Text Rotation box, specify the rotation value for the grid label text.

  7. To hide or show the label at one end of the gridline, in the Building Grid Labels dialog box, click End 1 Hide or End 1 Show .

Note: To hide or show the label at the other end of the gridline, click End 2 Hide or End 2 Show

  8. Expand Jog and perform the following steps:
    1. In the Offset box, specify the perpendicular distance between the gridline and label.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    2. In the Start box, specify the length of the grid label extension line after which the jog starts.
    3. In the Angle box, specify the angle that the jog makes with the grid label extension line.
  9. To create asymmetrical grid labels at either end of the gridline, perform the following steps:
    1. Clear the Mirror checkbox.

By default, this check box is selected.

    2. In End 2 Length, enter the length of the grid label line on the other end.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    3. In End 2 Gap, enter the gap between the gridline and the start of the grid label line on the other end.
    4. In End 2 Text Rotation, enter the angle of rotation of the text in the grid label on the other end.
  10. Click Ok. .

The system displays the Building Grid with the grid labels.

Notes:
  • If you right-click the building grid in the tree and click Hide/Show in the context menu, only the building grid is hidden and the grid label is not hidden.
  • If you right-click the building grid in the tree and click Hide/Show on the context toolbar, both building grid and grid label are hidden.
