Creating Object Type Families

You can create object types that stand for a family of objects. The family is controlled by a design table stored in the object type resource table

BIM technicians can then create new content from a family object type and a configuration. A configuration corresponds to a line of the design table stored in the object type resource table.

About Object Types
Creating an Object Type
  1. Create an object type.
  2. Associate a configuration table that should be an Excel file to the object type design table created along with the object type. See the design table marked by a red arrow in the figure:

    Notes:
    • The system expects an Excel file whose first column gives the name of the various configurations.
    • The first row gives the name of the design table properties, next rows correspond to the various configurations.
    • If a property of the design table is named as an attribute of the object type, then the value is set to the attribute of extension of the same name carried by the object pointing the object type
  3. Propagates the changes.
  4. If you need to edit the configuration table, make sure you do it through a new version (revision).

The new object type family is created and a design table is associated to it. The new object type family is made available:

  • At creation in the Object Type chooser through a Configuration tab.
  • At creation and edition in the Manage AEC Attributes panel through a Configuration box located below the Object Type summary.
