About Standard Opening

This topic provides information about the various options available to create a standard opening.

This page discusses:

Positioning Strategy

In the Positioning Strategy area, select the appropriate option to define the location and orientation of the opening.

You can define the location of the opening using the following options:

Offset / Offset
Specifies the offset from reference elements in U and V directions.
Half Height / Offset
Specifies the offset from a reference element in U direction, and halfway between plate edges in V direction.
Mid Dist / Offset
Specifies the halfway between two elements in U direction, and offset from another reference element in V direction.
Mid Dist / Mid Dist
Specifies the halfway between two elements in U direction, and halfway between two other elements in V direction.
Half Height / Mid Dist
Specifies the halfway between two elements in U direction, and halfway between plate edges in V direction.
3D Axis
Specifies the position at the origin of the 3D axis.

You can specify the orientation angle.

Contour

In the Contour area, select the opening type and the opening dimensions.

Note: This list is generated from the opening table defined in Data Setup.

In the Type list, the types of the opening are:

  • Rectangular
  • Round
  • Oblong
  • Catalog

For the Catalog type, you can create a user-defined opening by selecting a contour from the opening table assigned in Data Setup.

If no Resources Catalog or Resources Library resource is set in Data Setup, the Type list becomes unavailable. But you can still create the catalog type opening by clicking More... in the Name list and:

  • Selecting the required opening reference from the catalog/library, if the Structure Reference Catalog or the Structure Reference Library resource is set in Data Setup.
  • Searching the required opening reference in the database, if no Structure Reference Catalog or Structure Reference Library resource is set in Data Setup.

Attributes

Support
In the Support box, define the face for drawing the opening sketch. The normal or inverse support can be selected from the list.
Direction
In the Direction box, define the direction in which the opening contour is projected to the element to which the opening is to be created. It can be planar surface or a line. By default, the support of the element on which the opening is to be created is selected as the direction.
Note: You can create a line or a plane to define the direction using other stack commands like Create Line or Create Plane respectively.
Forming
In the Forming list, select the required forming mode.

By default, Molded Form is set as the forming mode. For more information, see Forming mode.

Extrusion
In the Extrusion box, define the limits for extrusion Up To Last or Limit1/Limit2.

The extrusion must intersect the support of the plate/split plate.

Limit1
This box gets activated if Limit1/Limit2 is selected in the Extrusion box. In the Limit1 box, enter the offset from contour for Limit1.
Limit2
This box gets activated if Limit1/Limit2 is selected in the Extrusion box. In the Limit2 box, enter the offset from contour for Limit2.
