Filleting Sketch Entities

You can round the corners between sketch entities.

  • You can add a single fillet.
  • You can add a set of multiple same-radius fillets:
    • When you activate the fillet command, the first fillet you add is a master fillet. All subsequent fillets have the same radius.
    • If you change the radius of a master fillet, all fillets in its set change.
    • If you change the radius of an individual fillet in a set, then that fillet becomes independent. All other fillets in the set remain related to the master fillet.
  • You can complete one set and start a new set by doing one of the following:
    • While adding a fillet, edit its radius value in the callout. That fillet becomes a master fillet and all subsequent fillets belong to a new set with the same radius as the new master fillet.
    • Double-click in a blank region of the 3D area. The next fillet you add is a new master fillet.
    • Exit the fillet command. When you activate the command again, the first fillet you add is a new master fillet.

This task shows you how to:

Add Sketch Fillets by Dragging

You can add a fillet at the intersection of two sketch entities by dragging across the entities.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Fillet .
  2. Drag across the first two entities to fillet.

The location where you drag across the entities determines the radius of the fillet. (The shorter of the two distances is used.)

  3. Continue dragging to add more fillets to the set.

The first fillet you add is the master fillet. Additional fillets share the same radius as the master fillet.

You can edit the radius of the master fillet to change the radii of all fillets in the set. For more information, see Change the Radii of Fillets.

Add Sketch Fillets by Clicking

You can add a fillet at the intersection of two sketch entities.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Fillet .
  2. To preview the fillet, do one of the following:
    • Hover over the intersection of two sketch entities. To change the fillet radius, enter a value in the callout.

    • Select one sketch entity (for example, the top of the rectangle) and hover over the second (for example, the side of the rectangle). To change the fillet radius, move the pointer along the second entity.

  3. Press Enter or click to add the sketch fillet.

  4. To add more fillets to the set, click or drag across additional sketch entities.
The first fillet you add is the master fillet. Additional fillets share the same radius as the master fillet, and only one callout appears.

Add New Fillets to an Existing Set

You can add new fillets to an existing set of fillets.

Before you begin: Create new entities to fillet.
  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Fillet .
  2. Select the arc of a fillet in the existing set.

  3. Preview the new fillet.

  4. Click to create the new fillet.
The new fillet is added to the set.

If you change the radius of the set's master fillet, the radius of the new fillet changes along with the radius of other fillets in the set.

Change the Radii of Fillets

You can change the radii of existing sketch fillets.

If you change the radius of a master fillet, all fillets in the set also change.

If you change the radius of an individual fillet in a set, then that fillet becomes independent. All other fillets in the set remain related to the master fillet.

  1. To change the radius of the master fillet:
    1. Select the arc of the master fillet.

    2. In the callout, change the value and press Enter.
The new radius is applied to all fillets in the set.

  2. To change the radius of an individual fillet.
    1. Select the center point of the fillet.

    2. In the callout, change the value and press Enter.
The new radius is applied only to the selected fillet. All other fillets in the set remain related to the master fillet.

Add Sketch Fillets to Crossing Entities

You can add sketch fillets between sketch entities that cross each other.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Fillet .
  2. On a sketch entity, click the section to keep.

  3. To preview possible sketch fillets, move the pointer over the second entity.

  4. Click to add the sketch fillet.

Add Sketch Fillets to Nonintersecting Entities

You can add sketch fillets between sketch entities that do not intersect.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Fillet .
  2. Select a sketch entity.

  3. To preview possible sketch fillets, move the pointer over the second entity.

  4. Click to add the sketch fillet.
