Translating a Geometry

You can translate an existing geometry along a vector.

The definition of the vector depends on the type of translation you use for the transformation.

This task shows you how to:

Translate Using a Direction and a Distance

  1. Under Result, select one of the following options:
    • : the result of the transformation is a surface.
    • : the result of the transformation is a volume.

Important: This switch only applies to volumes as the transformation of a surface can only be a surface.

If you multiselect volumes and surfaces as inputs, the switch only affects volumes.

  2. Under Type, select the following option:
  3. In the work area, select the geometry to translate.
Note: You can select several geometries.
  4. To define the vector, do one of the following:
    • Select a line to use its orientation as the translation orientation.
    • Select a plane to use its normal direction as the translation orientation.
  5. In the Distance box, specify a value.
  6. Validate .

Translate Using Two Points

  4. To define the vector, select a start point and an end point.
  5. Validate .

Translate Using Coordinates

  4. To define the vector, specify its X, Y, and Z coordinates.
  5. Optional: In the tree, select an axis system.

Important: By default, the Origin axis system of your design is used for this type of translation.

If you select another axis system, the coordinates are applied with respect to your selection and the preview is updated accordingly.

  6. Validate .
