You can use the External Reference feature on the Assembly section of the action bar to link the items such as geometry, features, dimensions, and so on.

The External Reference command has two states. You can select or cancel the selection the command to switch between the enable or disable state accordingly.

In the enable state:

  • The command name appears as External Reference .
  • The external references that link the items, are automatically created.
  • If you make any changes to an existing product, it updates all the linked items and so the external references that link these items.
Note: You can use Global Refresh or Solve feature on the standard area of the action bar to update the external references.

In the tree, the external references are listed under the separate node.

Disabling the External References command creates isolated external references that do not link the items. The isolated external references are nothing but the external references without any linking.

In the disable state:

  • The command name appears as Isolate External References .
  • The external references do not link the items.
  • Adding any external geometry in the active product, creates isolated external references.
  • If you make any changes to an existing product, it does not update the items because of missing links.

In the tree, the isolated external references are listed under the separate node.

Disabling the External References command activates the Isolated External References command.
