Joining Geometries

You can assemble adjacent curves or surfaces to create a single feature.

  1. From the Transform section of the action bar, click Join .
    The Join panel appears.
  2. In the work area, select the elements to join.

You can only select curves or surfaces.

  3. Under Check, select the following options to verify the join:
    OptionDescription
Tangency Verifies that the transitions between the elements are tangent continuous.
Connectivity Verifies that the elements to join are connected.

By default, this option is selected.

Manifold Verifies that the join is manifold.

By default, this option is selected.

  4. Under Advanced, specify advanced options:
    OptionDescription
Simplify result Reduces automatically the number of elements (faces or edges) in the join whenever possible.
Ignore erroneous elements Discards surfaces and edges that prevent the creation of the join.
Heal merged cells Heals the joined elements topologically.

This option uses the value specified in the Merging distance box under Tolerant modeling.

Propagation Combines automatically several elements with the previously selected elements to create a federation.

The elements added in the federation depend on the Propagation mode you select from the list:

    • No federation: no elements are combined and selection is impossible. By default, this mode is selected.
    • All propagation: adds all elements of the join feature to the federation. Selection is impossible.
    • Point continuity: adds all the elements that have a point continuity with the selected elements and the continuous elements to the federation.
    • Tangent continuity: adds all the elements that are tangent to the selected elements to the federation.
Important: When you work with surfaces, only the top faces of the joined surface are detected, not the lateral faces.

To federate a surface and its boundaries using Tangent continuity mode, you need to select all the faces as well as the edges.

    • No propagation: adds only the elements you select to the federation.

Sub-elements to remove Lets you select joined elements to remove them from the join.
  5. Under Tolerant modeling:
    1. Specify a merging distance.
    2. Select Custom angular threshold, and specify an angle value.
  6. Validate .
The Join feature appears in the tree.
