Defining Buckle Steps

You can perform a buckle step to perform a stress/displacement eigenvalue buckling analysis to estimate the critical buckling loads of stiff structures.

This task shows you how to:

Define Buckle Steps Using the Subspace Solver

  1. From the Solver type options, select Subspace.
  2. Adjust any of the following parameters:
    OptionDescription
Number of eigenvalues Enter the number of eigenvalues to be calculated. Significant overestimation of the actual number of eigenvalues can cause too much data to be generated internally, leading to database performance issues.
Maximum iterations Enter the upper limit for the number of iterations to be performed by the subspace solver.

Define Buckle Steps Using the Lanczos Solver

  1. From the Solver type options, select Lanczos.
  2. Adjust any of the following parameters:
    OptionDescription
Number of eigenvalues Enter the number of eigenvalues to be calculated.
Minimum eigenvalue Enter the minimum eigenvalue frequency of interest.
Maximum eigenvalue Enter the maximum eigenvalue frequency of interest.
