Specifying Common Preferences

You can access common preferences from within the app and widget preferences from the widget menu before you open a component.

  1. From the standard area of the action bar, click Common Preferences .
  2. The following table lists the preferences available in the Common Preferences dialog box:
    OptionDescription
    Units Specifies the Length Units to display dimensions.
    • mm (Millimeter)
    • cm (Centimeter)
    • m (Meter)
    • in (Inch)
    • ft (Foot)
    Note: Alternatively, from the work area, in the upper-right corner, from the Units on-screen menu, you can change the units.

    Dimension Decimal Places Specifies a value from 0.1 to 0.123456 for decimal precision.
    Mouse and Trackpad Controls Specifies the mouse and keyboard interactions to manipulate objects in the work area. Your selected mouse control preferences apply to all SOLIDWORKS dashboard apps.

    The following mouse control preferences are available:

    • CATIA
    • SOLIDWORKS
    • 3DEXPERIENCE
    Shortcut Ring Specifies how to open the shortcut ring.
    • Right mouse drag
      Note: This is default for SOLIDWORKS.
    • Alt + right mouse drag
      Note: This is default for CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE.
    Note: Changing the default shortcut ring gesture affects other shortcuts.
    Zoom Direction Specifies the direction for Zoom.
    Triad Display Displays a model of your choice list in the Triad.
    Note: The Shortcut Ring and Triad Display options are not available in xDirect Design.
  3. Click OK.
