Replacing Components with a Revision

You can replace a component, or a sub-assembly with its revision that exists in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This page discusses:

Use Replace by Revision

You can use Replace by Rrevision to replace a component with an existing revision.

You can save a CATIA V5 design in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform as a new revision. A design can have multiple revisions in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The Replace by Revision command will search for all the revisions of the selected object. These revisions are displayed in the Replace by Revision dialog box. You can select only one of these revisions to replace a component in your assembly.

You can access the Replace by Revision command from:

  • 3DEXPERIENCE menu
  • 3DEXPERIENCE toolbar
  • Contextual menu

The Replace by Revision command is based on the file replace infrastructure, so:

  • You cannot replace a component with a new file that has the same filename, and internal identification.
  • A warning message appears when you replace a CATPart that has a contextual link. This warning appears only if the context product is not selected.

Note:
  • You can use the Replace by Revision command only on product instances. You cannot use it to replace a root product.
  • You cannot use the Replace by Revision command when you activate the CATIA V5 cache mode.

Use Edit > Links

You can use Edit > Links to replace a component with an existing revision.

The Pointed Documents tab of the Edit > Links dialog box has a Replace by Revision button. This button will be visible when you connect to 3DEXPERIENCE. You must ensure that you have selected at least one pointed document.

In the Replace by Revision dialog box, select another revision with a different filename, and click OK to:

  • Download the selected revision to the 3DEXPERIENCE cache directory.
  • Replace the selected revision.
