Defining Optimization Parameters

You can define the number of optimization steps.

Before you begin: Create a flow optimization. For more information, see Creating a Flow Optimization.
  1. From the Optimization section of the Flow optimization assistant panel, select Optimization parameters.
  2. Define the number of iterations.
  3. To save the optimization iterations at specified intervals, define the number of intervals.
Iterations are kept at each specified interval starting from the initialization delay.
  4. Optional: In the Expert options frame, do the following:
    1. Define the delay before the optimization starts.
    2. Specify the backflow tolerance.

The backflow tolerance must be a value between zero and one. The default backflow tolerance is 0.5.

      : backflow tolerance

      : reference velocity direction

      : actual velocity direction

Note: A small backflow tolerance means that flow is prevented even if the deviation of the flow direction from the intended direction is small. A large tolerance allows more freedom of the flow direction and hence, larger deviations from the required flow direction are allowed.
