Embedded_Surface_Features

This rule checks whether a model contains identical or partially identical topological elements. If so, the elements are rated as incorrect.

This page discusses:

Context

Identical surfaces are duplicated surfaces overlapping one another entirely. Surfaces are partially identical when one surface overlapps the other surface, but not completely.

You can obtain identical or partially identical surfaces in the following situations:

  • Performing modeling operations such as Split, Trim or Invert.
Note: In this case, input elements are only hidden.
  • Creating a single model including every intermediate fabrication state (from the rough part to the finished part, for example).

Identical or partially identical surfaces increase the size of the model and are considered as redundant. They can also generate design ambiguities or prevent the automatic creation of topology.
