Fragmented_Surface

This check verifies whether the number of segments in a surface exceeds the value specified. If so, the elements are considered as incorrect.

This page discusses:

Context

When a surface includes a high number of segments, then the size of the surface increases and the surface is considered as complex and fragmented.

A surface can be considered as fragmented in the following situations:

  • Proceeding to an erroneous approximation of a high-degree surface.
  • Joining areas with completely different curvatures.
  • Using a large number of patches in the geometry.
Note: The surface waviness can increase, as well as the size of the model.
  • Importing a model created with another computer-aided design (CAD) system.

Check Information

Check Details Description
Applicable to: PartFeature
Automatic Solution:
Check Parameters:
  • Max_Nb_Patches: Integer type.

If the option is selected, checks the number of segment rows and specifies the maximum number of patches allowed per surface.

  • Max_Nb_Patches_Dir: Integer type.

Specifies the maximum number of arcs allowed in the U and V direction. Above this value, the surface is considered as fragmented, and so as incorrect.

If the value is set to zero, the parameter is ignored.
