Reference Information: Design Range Management

xShape Design supports design range management.

The design ranges play a prominent role in properly modeling all elements at their real size.

The following figure illustrates the design range system expressed in metric units of measure:

TermsDefinition
Design LimitsA determined range system in which you can create components. The lower and upper bounds vary from small to extra-large range.

Design limits are relevant in specific situations and accounted for in the calculation.

Tolerant resolution (TR)Maximum size of gap for tolerant modeling.
Model size (MS)Maximum coordinate value of topological elements.
Small rangeFor objects ranging from 0.00001 mm to 0.01 km.
Normal range (NR)For objects ranging from 0.001 mm to 1 km.
Large rangeFor objects from 0.1 mm to 100 km.
Extra-large rangeFor objects from 10 mm to 10.000 km.

Important:
  • The default design range of the components you create in the app is the Normal range. This default option cannot be modified.
  • An error message appears when:
    • You define dimensions on a component that exceed the maximum design limit.
    • You insert an existing component with a design range that is larger than the active component.
    • You create a subcomponent with a design range that is larger than the active component.
