About Examine Selection and Edit Structure

Navigating and editing the structure involves switching to structure view to explore the product structure level by level and using the Examine Selection.

This page discusses:

Structure Mode

Default Viewpoint

When entering the Structure mode, the viewpoint of the isometric view is applied and a reframe is performed on the 3D geometry under the following conditions:

  • The Edit Structure command is started for the first time in this widget
  • Or the last time Structure mode was used, the displayed level was home that is no root was exploded
  • Or the last used navigation path does not exist any longer

Keep Navigation Path

When exiting the structure mode, the current navigation path is memorized.

When turning on the structure mode in the same widget, if the same path is available in session, it is restored, that is the same level of the same product structure is displayed exploded on trays. Otherwise, the current product structure is exploded at first level or all roots are presented, as usual.

Keep Structure Mode Viewpoint

When turning on the structure mode, if the same navigation path can be restored (see previous paragraph), the same view point over the exploded product structure is applied.

Restore In Place Viewpoint

When exiting the structure mode, the same viewpoint is restored for In Place mode as it was when you turned on the structure mode.

Dynamic Representation Loading

When you open the data, all the product structure levels are opened in a session. Only 3D geometries are opened according to the dynamic representation loading.

In case of large assemblies:

  • For roots that are frozen (no structure modification), geometries are loaded or unloaded according to the viewpoint definition.
  • For roots that are not frozen, the loading is paused (no modification of the structure and no geometry loading). The loading is resumed only when you exit the structure mode or the examine mode. On the status bar, the Resume 3D Loading is deactivated until you exit the structure mode.

In this mode, all structure trays of the current level are displayed with their correct sizes. When the parts are not displayed or loaded and bounding boxes are empty, icons for the parts appear in the work area.

Examine Selection

Refocus on Selection

When entering the command:

  • the action bar is minimized and four blue arrows are displayed on the top, bottom, right, and left of the widget area.
  • a reframe is automatically performed on the selection under the following conditions:
    • The command is started for the first time in this widget
    • Or the last time it was started in this widget the selection was different

Note: You do not need to save the position of the object into the database before using Examine Selection. When you start the Section or Measure commands, the Examine Selection command is not interrupted. When both commands are completed, you get back to the same display as before starting Examine Selection.

Keep the Selection Viewpoint

When entering the command with the same selection as the last time it was started in the widget, the same viewpoint over the selection is applied.

Dynamic Representation Loading

When you open the data, you can open the data partially, with the necessary 3D geometries. You can pause or stop opening the geometries that are yet to loaded in a session.

On the status bar, the Resume 3D Loading is deactivated until you exit the examine mode.

At the lower-left corner of the widget, the loading status and control are available.

Ending The Command

To exit the command, do one of the following:

  • Press Escape.
  • Press the spacebar.
  • Click the work area.
  • Run another exclusive command.
  • Start dragging the geometry.

When leaving the command:

  • the action bar is restored,
  • the blue arrows are hidden,
  • the items that were transparent are displayed normally again
  • and the viewpoint is restored.

Note: When using Examine Selection, if you click Visible / Invisible space , the elements outside this selection are not displayed in the visible and invisible spaces.
