Processing a Rejected Task

After the task assignee completes a task that is marked as Needs Owner Review, the task is promoted to the In Approval state and the route owner reviews the task. In addition, other users could have approval tasks for the route. If an approver rejects a task, the system demotes the task back to To Do and notifies the route owner. The route owner must decide how to proceed based on the rejection comments. If a task is rejected, the task is not restarted and the route owner must create an additional task if further action is required.

Notifications are managed by 3DNotification. You can view notifications in the Notification Center, and you can select to receive email notifications. Notifications include links to the route or task. Links for routes open the properties for the route in Route Management and links for tasks open in Collaborative Tasks. For more information, see Social and Collaborative: Enterprise Modeling and Execution: Route Management: 3DNotifications for Routes and Tasks.

When rejecting a task, the route owner can reassign the task to someone other than the original assignee. The new assignee receives the notification and must complete the task. This means you might receive a notification about a task that is rejected even though you did not work on the task originally.

Required access roles: All

Before you begin: View the properties for the task. See Route Task Properties.
Complete the task again based on the review comments the route owner entered.

You complete a rejected task in the same way you complete a new task, as described in Completing a Route Task, with these differences:

  • You, the task assignee, will receive a Review Complete notification about the task and can click the hyperlink in the message to access details about the task. Alternatively, you can click the task's Name from the Tasks pages as you would any Assigned task.
  • Review the information on the Properties page for the task, focusing especially on the Review Comments. These are comments the route owner entered to explain how to complete the task. Also look for updated information in the other fields, such as new Instructions, a new Due Date/Time, and a different Action.
