About Licenses

You can manage licenses along with the rest of a company's profile details. See the DS License Server Guide for details about installing the license server and configuring it to work with the app server. See the DS Licensing Essentials Guide for details about obtaining licenses.

Use the platform Members Control Center to assign licenses to users. For more information, see Managing Members.

Required access roles:

  • Baseline: Administrator
  • App-specific: Organization Manager, Company Representative

This page discusses:

Collaborative Industry Innovator License

All users require a license for Collaborative Industry Innovator to log into a 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This license provides a user with minimal access to content used within the apps so they can access content. For example, a person may need to read specifications for parts from Engineering BOM Management, but they do not need to create, delete, or otherwise act on that content. Other people may need to approve documents or other objects. The user's guide for each app lists the tasks for various access roles within that app. If someone needs to perform these tasks, you need to assign an access role and license for that app to that person.

Users cannot concurrently log into the same 3DSpace Service instance from different machines. A server instance refers to a logical server that could consist of multiple web app servers connected to a single database. Users can, however, log into the same server instance multiple times from the same computer to allow multiple browser windows open on a computer. Users can also log into two different server instances from the same or different computers. For example, a user could log into a production environment server and a test environment server from the same computer.

Access Roles and Licenses

Users who are assigned access roles in more than one app require a license for each app. When a user logs in, the user consumes a license for all apps for which they are assigned a license. If a user cannot login because a license for a particular app is not available (the licenses for that app are over-allocated), the user is denied access to all apps.

For a person to log in and work with an app (beyond the basic access granted by the license required to access the platform), that person needs:

  • An app role (see the user's guide for each app for a list and description of roles)
  • A license for that app

Casual and Unlimited Licenses

Your company typically has some employees who use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to perform much of their work. You can assign full licenses to these users. An unlimited license allows them full access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

You probably also have many employees who only need to use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform occasionally, to download documents or approve items, for example. You can assign casual licenses to these users. A casual license allows them 40 hours of access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform per month. The home page displays a message when users log in when they near their limit for the month.

A user is either an unlimited or casual user. You cannot mix types of licenses for a user. For example, you cannot assign 2 apps with unlimited licenses and 3 apps with casual licenses to the same user.

Consumed Licenses

When you assign a license to a user, that license is not actually consumed, or used up, until that user logs into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. When you inactivate a user in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you can also choose to remove the license from that user, or allow the user to retain it if you anticipate they may be reactivated.

Once a license is consumed by a user, it is consumed for a minimum of 30 days and cannot be reassigned to another user within that period.

Over Allocated Licenses

You can allocate more licenses than you have available. For example, you may see that of 1000 licenses you purchased and allocated, only 500 have been consumed. In this case, if you have a request for a license, you can assign it to that user without consuming all of your licenses.

Also, you can purchase additional licenses and apply them to the server (see the Dassault Systemes Licensing Essentials Guide), and eliminate the deficit in licenses.
