Copying Files from DesignSync

You can copy files from DesignSync from any page that allows you to create documents, such as in the Documents summary page for a document family or document, or in the Files summary page for a Specification in Engineering BOM Management.


Before you begin: Navigate to the contents page for the object where you want to copy the files.

About Copying Files from DesignSync
  1. From the Actions menu, select Copy from DesignSync or Create New > Copy from DesignSync.
  2. Enter the following details:

    Field NameDescription
    Name Enter the name for the file you are connecting or check the AutoName box to have the system assign a name.
    TypeClick to select a document type from the chooser.
    PolicyFrom the list, select a policy. This field is updated when the Type field is changed.
    DescriptionEnter a descriptive comment about the file you are connecting.
    StoreFrom the list, select the DesignSync server (for example, rootOf2647).
    PathBrowse to select the path, or enter the path into the box.

    If you manually enter the path, it cannot contain any of these special characters: @,*?[]#${}"<>|: ' ~%^&()`= The path name must resolve to a folder, or a module or module version on the DesignSync server.

    SelectorIf you browsed to select an object, this field is already filled in. Otherwise, enter the name of the branch where the DesignSync object is stored. If the branch entered is not a legal branch selector, an error is returned during check-in.
    • If you enter Trunk, the system appends :Latest to the branch; the selector would be Trunk:Latest.
    • If you enter a text string with a colon, the system appends Latest to the branch. For example, if you enter Gold:, the selector would be Gold:Latest.
    • If you enter a text string other than Trunk without a colon, the system does not append anything to the branch. For example, if you enter Gold, the selector would be Gold.

    To search for the path:

    1. Click for Select Object from Server. See Creating a New or Connecting to an Existing DesignSync Object for details on the select page.

      When copying to a file or a folder in DesignSync, the Select page lists modules, files, and folders on the DesignSync server. Only branches and versions of files show a value in the Version or Tags columns; the top-level file is not a specific version and does not show versions or tags.

    2. Select the module, file, or folder that you want to copy.
    3. Click Submit.

      Your choice sets the option for the selected type of DesignSync object: File, Folder, or Module.

  3. Click Done.
