Creating Undercut Geometries

Use Undercut Geometries to create undercut geometries of a solid or a volume with respect to the pulling direction.

The undercut corresponds to an overhang area, a concave area, or a hole of the part, normal or partially normal to the pulling direction. This area can be filled by a volume.

  1. Select the shape (Volume or solid).
  2. Select an axis system whose Z-axis represents the pulling direction.
  3. Specify the computation options:
    1. From the Surfaces or volumes list, select the type of result to generate (Surfaces or Volumes).
    2. Specify the minimum surface or volume dimension.
Surface or volumes smaller than this value are not computed.
  4. Click Apply to compute the geometries.
  5. Expand Display the resulting geometries of the computation to review the result.
    1. Filter the results from the column headers.
    2. Double-click the status to change it.
  6. Click OK to validate.

  • An Undercut Geometries node is created in the tree.
  • It contains the Minimum Surface Dimension and Minimum Volume Dimension parameters, and the Undercut Surfaces or Undercut Volumes, depending on your choice.
  • You can select any surface or volume to perform a geometric operation.
