Creating a Separation Manager

You can create a SetOfSeparation on simple part, from the pulling direction, the part geometry and the parting line.

Under SetOfSeparation, Separation Manager creates

  • A feature (Separation Manager) that manages the separation of the part.
  • And features (result solutions) that manage the result of the separation. They can be of two types:
    • Side (Core, Cavity, Slider/lifter). They allow the creation of splits and inserts in the process.
    • Or Split (Core, Cavity, Slider/lifter).

If extended surfaces (shut off surfaces) or fills exist and are selected, Side automatically creates a join, using the SurfaceJoinTolerance parameter.

Before you begin: In the Preferences, under Geometrical Set Creation, allow the creation of a specific geometrical set.

Alternatively, define an In Work object to create the SetOfSeparation.

  1. From the Molded Part section in the action bar, click Separation Manager .
SetOfSeparation is created in the tree. It contains the SurfaceJoinTolerance parameter.
  2. Select the compulsory inputs.
    1. Select the pulling direction.

If there is only one pulling direction in the model, it is automatically selected.

    2. Select the part geometry.

It can be a solid, a volume, or a surface.

    3. Select the parting line.

It can be an existing parting line, or joins, or wireframes lying on the shape, or surfaces intersecting the shape.

  3. Click Apply.
Side features are created under SetOfSeparation as Core Side, Cavity Side, or Slider/lifter.
  4. Optional: Select parting surfaces and shut-off surfaces, either for both sides, or for core or cavity only.
They are joined with the cavity or core surfaces.
  5. Optional: From the tree, edit the parameter SurfaceJoinTolerance under Separation Manager.

    Its default value is 0.001.

  6. After any modification of the input, click Update to update the result.

A SetOfSeparation node is created in the tree. It contains

  • The Separation Manager and the Cavity Side, Core Side, and Slider/lifter Side features.
Note: Separation Manager is associative with the compulsory inputs.
  • The SurfaceJoinTolerance used to create joins.
