Creating a Platform Cross Section and Associated Object Types

You can create a platform cross section that is an input necessary for the platform design. With this command, a specialized sketch is created, called platform cross section.

This task shows you how to:

Create Platform Cross Section

You can create a platform cross section that is an input necessary for the platform creation.

Before you begin: After designing a platform, the node Earthwork containing a Platform Stretch Set is created in the tree.
  1. From the Civil Engineering section of the action bar, click Platform Cross Section .
The Platform Cross Section Sketcher opens, allowing you to edit excavation profile and filling profiles. The green line displays the platform location always on the left side for scanning along the curve or surface.
  2. Click Excavation Profile from the Platform Cross Section section of the action bar.

You create a one-side profile, only on the right. It consists of a polyline, corresponding to the right side of the platform.

  3. Draw the side of the excavation profile in the 3D area.
  4. Double-click anywhere in the 3D area to validate or click OK in the Excavation Profile dialog box to create a 3D output profile corresponding to the excavation profile.

A Cross Section node is created, representing the geometry that will be removed or filled. You can edit the profiles in the same way as for any sketch polyline.

Tip: After creating the profile, the status icon is green and the Create side 1 profile button changes into Edit side 1 profile in the Excavation Profile window.
  5. To add segments to the first created profile, click Edit side 1 profile next to .
The cursor automatically moves at the end of the profile and you can add other segments to the existing profile. To delete this side of the profile, click .
  6. Click Filling Profile from the Platform Cross Section section of the action bar.
  7. To go back to the Civil Engineering 3D Design, click Exit .
  8. To modify the profile with the new one created, edit the platform:
    1. Select Platform under Platform Stretch Set in the tree.
    2. Click inside the Platform Cross Section box of the Platform Earthwork window.
    3. Select a cross section in the tree.
    4. Click Preview:
    5. Click OK.
    6. To visualize the modified terrain, hide the platform and excavation/filling works under Earthwork > Platform Stretch Set:

Create a Platform Object Type and Attach a Platform Cross Section to This Object Type

You can create a platform object type, and attach the above created platform cross section to it.

  1. Click Add > Content and select Subgrade Type.
A dialog box is displayed enabling you to create an object type of subgrade type.
  2. Choose a title and select the Adaptive mode for the Product instantiation method.
You have created an object type that can be reused in platform design. With the Adaptive mode, it scans the outline of the platform profile.
  3. Click OK.
The platform object type is created along with the associated platform cross section. The Resource Table of the object type contains a table called Cross Section. Its type is Sketch, only available on a limited list of object types. The cross section created in object types must be created by the cross section sketcher.
  4. Double-click Resource table in the tree.
The Resource Table Management dialog box is displayed.
  5. In the Cross Section line, right-click the Resource cell and select Choose the assigned resource.
  6. Select the Platform Cross Section in the tree or the 3D area, and click OK.
  7. Click OK in the Resource table.
  8. Select Share > Save > Save All to save the created object type.
