Hiding Large Cloud of Points

You can hide points of a large point cloud with an associative bounding box. You can select objects located inside or outside the hidden area to extract a part of the large cloud of points.

  1. Select a point cloud.

Only one Hide feature is created under the Representation Reference in the tree. If you select the Representation containing a Hide feature, the same Hide feature is edited.

When the UI-active object contains a point cloud representation, it is selected by default.

If the 3D Shape is UI-active, the default point cloud representation is the one under the same parent node as the 3Dshape.

  2. Click New Selection.
  3. Create a bounding box.

When a bounding box selection is done, a new line appears in the Hide Large Cloud of Point dialog box, indicating the selection Type: Trap Selection, Volume or Alignment. You can combine different selection modes.

Once the Hide command has an associated bounding box, you cannot change your point cloud selection.

  4. If satisfied with your selection, click OK.
  5. Optional: To specify if the extracted point cloud should contain the points inside or outside the trap for example, without editing the bounding box, select one of the following options in the combo box next to the selection Type:
    • Inside to hide the points inside the volume of the bounding box.
    • Outside to hide the points outside the volume of the bounding box.
  6. Optional: To modify your selection, click Edit Selection.
If needed, double-click the Hide feature in the tree to reopen the command and click a row in the Type list.
  7. Select a Bounding Box.

If you cannot select a bounding box that was created in a Part before, you need to create a new selection with the Hide Large Cloud of Point dialog box.

  8. To delete a selection, click Remove Selection.
