Replacing GBOM Items

You can replace an item with another item in a GBOM category or in the Active Parts tab in the GBOM Part Table.

For logical features in the Release state, System Engineers need to use an Engineering Change (EC) to replace parts. When the part is replaced, the logical feature is added to the Affected Items page for the EC with a Reason for Change value of "Requested Change." The logical feature also becomes the default Reported Against item for the EC.

Before you begin: Access the GBOM category or the Active Parts tab in the GBOM Part Table for the needed logical feature or model version. See GBOM Part Table: Active Parts Page Tab.
  1. Select the item that you want to replace.
  2. From the page Actions menu, select Replace .
  3. Search for the item you want to replace the selected item with and click OK.

Tip: In the Active Parts page tab, you can click in the row for the item you want to replace.

  4. If you are replacing a part in a GBOM part table for a released logical feature, click next to Authorizing Engineering Change to search for and select the required EC.

The Update Released Feature property must be enabled to replace parts for logical features in the Release state.

  5. Click Done.

The replaced part (the one selected in Step 1) now shows in the Inactive Parts page tab of the GBOM Part Table.
