Copying Product Configurations

You can copy one or more product configurations from one model version to another model version under a different model or to a newer a newer revision or derivation of the same model version. The selected configurations from the source product configuration are copied to the target product configuration. You cannot copy product configurations associated with models or logical features.

Before you begin: View the product configurations associated with the target model version. For more information, see Product Configurations Page for a Model Version or Logical Feature. The target model version must already be associated with a variant or option group.
  1. From the toolbar, click Copy Product Configuration From .
  2. From the search results, select one or more product configurations that you want to copy to the target model version.

    The search results contain all product configurations associated with any model version, including newer revisions or derivations of the current model version and model versions under any other models. The maximum number of product configurations that you can copy at one time is specified by your Business Administrator.

  3. Click OK.
    The Product Configuration page updates to list the product configurations copied to the model version.

Copying product configurations results in the following:

  • The manually-selected variant values and options in the source model version's product configurations that are still available are copied to the target model version's product configurations. If a selected variant values and options are no longer available, they are ignored and message indicates that they were not copied.
  • Auto-selected and default selected variant values and options in the source product configurations are not copied to the target product configurations then updated unless rules defined on the target product configurations require them to do so.
  • Rejected variant values and options on the source model version's product configurations are copied to the target model version's product configurations.
  • Context-specific rules are run on the target model version's product configurations to update the status of copied variant values and options. If there are any rule conflicts in the copied model version's product configuration, you must resolve those conflicts manually.
  • The value of the Derived From field on the target model version's product configuration is set to the name of the source model version's product configuration name.
  • The value of the Total Price field on the target model version's product configuration is recalculated based on any variant values and options copied to it from the source model version's product configuration.
  • The value of the Top Level Part field of the source model version's product configuration is not copied to the target model version's product configuration.
  • The value of the Design Validation Status field of the target model version's product configuration is set to Not Validated.
