Using Timeline Charts

Timeline charts display objects on an interactive timeline. Objects may be grouped by default by a common property. For example, projects that are related to the same program may be grouped by this program.

Timeline charts are represented by the following icon on their widget header: .

This task shows you how to:

Load all Data

For performance purposes, timeline charts may not automatically load and display all available objects when you open the page the chart is on. You can manually load all objects.

From the bottom left-hand corner of the widget, click Load all Data .
A spinner is displayed while objects are loading.

When loading is complete, all available objects are displayed on the timeline.

Navigate through Time

You can zoom and move on the timeline.

You can:
  • Click or to adjust the time scale. You can also press Ctrl + scroll.
  • Click or to move to a past or future date.
    Note: The red vertical line represents today's date.

Display the Color Key

Objects are either represented by blocks or discs. Their colors depend on the object's state property. You can display a panel that shows the color that is applied to blocks or discs for each of their states.

  1. From the bottom left-hand corner of the widget, click to open the color key.
  2. When you are done reading the color key, click again to close it.

Display Object Details

You can display a panel that shows the details of any object and sub-objects.

From the timeline, click the object whose details you want to see.
A panel opens and displays the details of the object and of its sub-objects, if any.

Refine on Objects

You can add objects as filters to the page.

  1. From the timeline, click the object you want to refine on.
  2. From the panel that opened, you can either:
    • Click to refine on the object.
    • Click the name of a sub-object, if any, to refine on it.

The corresponding object or sub-object is added as a filter to the Active Filters bar and the page immediately reloads to apply it to its content. For more information on filters, see Refining Content.

Search Objects

You can find specific objects on the timeline.

  1. From the bottom left-hand corner of the widget, click .
  2. Enter the exact name or ID of the object you are looking for.

The timeline focuses on the corresponding object. If there are no results to your search, the search box turns red.

Display Chart Documentation

You can display a short help information that provides you with a description of the widget content and key interactions.

  1. From the widget header, click Menu > Chart Documentation .
  2. When you are done reading the documentation, click Close from the upper right-hand corner.

View Chart in Full Screen

You can display the chart in full screen.

  1. On a chart, click Menu > Full Screen.
  2. To exit full screen mode, click anywhere outside the chart or click Menu > Exit full Screen.

Ungroup Items

Some timeline charts allows you to display their objects under one another, regardless of the property they are by default grouped by.

  1. Click Menu > Ungroup items .
  2. To regroup items, click Menu > Group items by [property name] .
