Saving Content with Advanced Options

You can save content in a long transaction mode. This enables you to modify the save scope before saving, change the maturity state of the objects to be saved, or save them as a duplicate, branch, or revision.

This task shows you how to:

Open the Dialog Box and View the Objects

Select Share > Save > Save with Options (or use Ctrl+Shift+S).
The Save with Options dialog box displays the list of all the objects that belong to the save scope.
Tip: If you select objects that cannot be saved, an Incident Report dialog box appears. When you close this dialog box, the Save with Options dialog box appears. The objects at the origin of the error are displayed in the list with the icon in the Modification column.

However, if the Automatically exclude objects that cannot be saved option is selected in the Preferences panel, the Save with Options dialog box directly appears, and these objects are displayed as excluded in the list, with the icon in the Modification column. When you click OK, these objects are skipped.

Specify the Save Scope

  1. From the list on the left, select the save scope: Current Tab, Selected, or Session.
  2. To exclude a reference, a representation reference or an instance from the save scope, select it, and then click Exclude from Save Scope .
  3. Optional: To put an excluded object back to the save scope, select it from the list then click Restore in Save Scope .
After its restoration, the object's modification icon ( ) is restored.

Save your Modifications

You can view the modifications to be saved from the Save with Options dialog box. You can also save the objects as a duplicate, a revision or a branch.

  1. Optional: Select a modified object then click Show Modifications .
The Logged modifications dialog box displays the history of all the modifications made to the selected object since you opened it.
  2. Optional: To create a new revision or minor revision for a reference or a representation, select it then click Revision or Minor Revision .

Recommendation: Do not create minor revisions.

  3. Optional: To create a duplicate or a branch of an object, select it and then click Save as New or Save as New Branch .
  4. Optional: To change the maturity status of a reference or a representation, select the required objects then click Maturity Management (or use the Maturity Management contextual command).
  5. Click OK to validate.

A warning is displayed at the upper right corner of the screen to give a status.

Important:
  • If you select objects that cannot be saved, an Incident Report dialog box appears. When you close this dialog box, the Save with Options dialog box appears and the objects at the origin of the error are displayed in the list with the icon in the Modification column.

However, if the Automatically exclude objects that cannot be saved option is selected in the Preferences panel, the Save with Options dialog box directly appears and these objects are displayed as excluded in the list, with the icon in the Modification column. When you click OK, these objects are skipped.

  • If you want to save an object that has already been opened and saved in another session, either refresh it before saving it, or close it and reopen it.
