Creating New Objects

You can create or insert a new object and, when relevant, its associated representation.

This task shows you how to:

Create a New Object

To create an object, do either of the following:
  • Select a type of object in the Favorites section.
  • Select the type of object of your choice in the different types displayed under the Favorites list.
  • In the Find box, enter a search string corresponding to the type of object you want to create (for example, "mat" to search for "material"), then click or press Enter. All the types content matching the criterion are displayed in the list. You can select the type of object you want to create.
The object is directly created. By default, the dialog box showing the attributes is not displayed.
Important: The undo stack is flushed after the creation of an entity.

Manage the Attributes Dialog Box

The attribute dialog box only appears if you selected the Set attributes at creation option.

The attributes dialog box can appear automatically if you did not specify mandatory information like a mandatory attribute. This can happen even if you did not select the Set attributes at creation option.

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select a type of object in one of the sections, right-click this object, and select the Set attributes at creation option: It lets you manually access the selected object attributes when creating it.
    • Go to Tools , and select the Set attributes at creation for all types option: It lets you automatically access any object attributes when creating it, if the object type is displayed when selecting the option.
  2. Click the required type of object.
    The attributes dialog box appears.
  3. Optional: Define the required attributes:

    • : The attribute is an identification attribute.

When several identification attributes are available, you must specify a value for at least one of them. This attribute is identified by the red light symbol described below.

    • : The attribute is mandatory but you did not specify any value.
    • : The attribute is mandatory and you specified a value.

    Warning:
    • When you modify an attribute, checks are performed to make sure that you specified a value for all mandatory attributes and for at least one of the identification attributes. If an error occurs, the green light symbol turns red in the tab page.
    • You cannot associate a Business Rule to a template, nor define an attribute as mandatory or read-only.
    • When you create an object using a template, the authorized values of the attributes that are defined for the object type are not displayed in the attributes dialog box. Specify an authorized value to be able to create the object.

  4. Click Finish.

Insert a New Object

You can insert a new object under an existing one.

  1. Right-click the existing object.
  2. Select Insert > Product for example.
