Measuring Distance or Angle Between Items

In the visualization mode, Measure Between lets you measure distance and when applicable, angle between two entities and save the result under an active markup.

Before you begin: Activate a markup.
  1. In the Specifications tab of the Measure Between dialog box, specify the following details:
    OptionDescription
    Measurement mode
    • Multiple measure : Lets you create several independent measurements without clicking the Measure Between command several times.
    • Chain measure : Lets you create successive measurements where the last selected item becomes the first selection in the next measurement.
    • Fan measure : Fixes the first selection as the reference so that you always measure from this item.
    Type of measure
    • Minimum Distance: Measures the minimum distance between two entities.
    • Maximum Distance: Measures the maximum distance between two entities. The distance is measured between two farthest points of the selected elements. Note that this distance is, in general, not symmetrical. The result gives the maximum distance of all distances measured from the first selection.
    • Maximum Distance from 1 to 2: Measures the maximum distance between two entities. The distance is measured normal to the selection. Note that this distance is, in general, not symmetrical. The result gives the maximum distance of all distances measured from the first selection.
    • Curvilinear Distance: Measures the curvilinear distance between two points along a selected support surface.
    Calculation mode
    • Exact else approximate: Measures exact data and gives true values. If exact values cannot be measured, approximate values are calculated (identified by a ~ sign).
    • Exact: Measures exact data and gives true values.
    • Approximate: Measurements are done on tessellated objects and approximate values are calculated (identified by a ~ sign).
Associative if possible Select this check box to make the measurements associative with the geometry.
Selection 1 and 2Select the geometric elements. You can refine your selection by selecting the required geometry type in the Selection mode boxes.
Axis SystemSelect this check box to perform the measurements with respect to an axis system other than the global axis system. You can either select an axis system in the work area or define an axis system by selecting two edges on the geometry.
Keep MeasureSelect this check box to make the measurement persistent.
The measurement results are displayed in the 3D area and in the dialog box.
  2. In the Customize tab, select the parameters to be displayed in the 3D area and under results in the dialog box.
  3. Click OK.
