Thumbnails and Security
To create and delete 2D and 3D Thumbnails, you must have a security level that is at
least equivalent to the security level of the creator of the given object.
Thumbnails are more secure when generated in Dynamic mode than when generated in Static
mode (that is, using the Thumbnail Builder).
Thumbnails generated on structures are not secure. The permissions for these thumbnails
are granted to the user who generated them. They are not based on the permissions granted
for the different objects of the structure.
Generation of 3D Thumbnails
The options available to generate 3D Thumbnails vary depending on your content source
connector. The options that are not available for the content source connector in use are
grayed out.
When creating 3D Thumbnails, some surface colors in the original part might not appear in
the final 3D Thumbnail because of representation simplification.
When you use the Very High accuracy option, 3D Thumbnails are
generated from raw CGR and no representation simplification is applied.
For a 3D XML connector, you can only generate 3D Thumbnails once.
Generation of 2D Thumbnails
2D Thumbnails are computed only if the corresponding 3D Thumbnails are computed.
2D Thumbnails for a reference are only available by default if the reference has only one
child representation. This way, the thumbnail of the reference is the same as the
representation under it, which is already computed. For more information, see
Installation and Setup: Install: 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: Installing 3DEXPERIENCE
Platform Services for the First Time: Installing Services One-by-One: 3DSpace: 3DSpace
Index: Building Thumbnails and Simplified CGR.
If the reference has several children, the thumbnail is not computed, because it is
impossible to choose one between several. For example, a part "Door” has two
representations, one for the closed door and another one for the opened door. The
thumbnail is not generated because there is no way to know which one to use (opened or
closed door).
Other Considerations
2D and 3D Thumbnails are no longer generated in the same repository as representations,
making lifecycle operations more robust. As a consequence, thumbnails are no longer stored
in content export content streams, and you must regenerate Thumbnails on the export target
machine.
When computing static Thumbnails for references, the final Thumbnail might not contain
all the occurrences, especially for large structures. Thumbnails provide an overview of
the structure, but do not necessarily contain all the occurrences to keep them
lightweight.
The Thumbnail Builder does not support position matrix overloading. Therefore, some 2D
and 3D Thumbnails might have incorrect positioning.
