Opening Data in CATIA V5 from 3DDrive

You can open locally synchronized data in CATIA V5 from 3DDrive.

3DDrive provides a storage's space on DS cloud where you can upload documents and create a directory structure to organize them.


Before you begin:
  • Install the following software:
    • CATIA V5
      Note: CATIA V5-6 R2013 and further are validated versions.
    • 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher
    • CATIA V5 Connector to 3DEXPERIENCE Drive and 3DEXPERIENCE Drive Desktop Sync
  • In CATIA V5, from Tools > Options > General > Document, select the Folder of the pointing document and Relative folder options and click Up to move them up in the list.
  1. From the Compass, click 3DDrive.
  2. From the Compass, select a file to open and click CATIA V5.

    You can also do one of the following:

    • Use the context menu in the file and select Open With > CATIA V5.
    • Drag a file from an external navigator or from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform command in CATIA V5.

      It is available from V5-6R2017SP6, V5-6R2018SP2 and V5-6R2019GA, and further GA versions.

    If no CATIA V5 session is running, a new session is started and the corresponding local synchronized file opens in CATIA V5.
    Note: Here are the supported files when you use the context menu:
    V5 files CATAnalysis, CATDrawing, CATMaterial, CATPart, CATProduct, catalog
    V4 files model, session, library, asm
    Standard files igs, step, stp, stpZ , ig2, ps, stpx, stpxZ
    Other files 3dxml, dwg, dxf, icem, svg
  3. In CATIA V5, from the Start menu, select 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

    It is available from V5-6R2018 GA.

    The 3DCompass appears and displays the list of supported roles, apps, and services.
    Note: To remove this command from the Start menu, clear the Shows access to 3DEXPERIENCE platform option from Tools > Options > General > Compatibility > 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
