You can quickly move or copy objects through the drag capability.
Before you begin:
The behavior of the drag capability varies according to the app in which you are working. For example, dragging within
a .CATPart object is equivalent to cutting and
pasting, whereas dragging within an Assembly object is a way of reinstantiating a part.
The drag method of running commands is not available in all apps. See the guide of interest for more information.
From the App Options panel, click
Select
.
To access the
App Options
panel, from the
Tools section of the action bar, select
App Options
.
Point to the object you want to copy, so as to highlight it.
Hold Ctrl + drag the object to another location.
As soon as you point to the new location, it is highlighted and the pointer
shape changes to .
There is no
restriction on UI-activation for drag operations, which means that you can drag an
object even if it is not UI-active.
Release Ctrl and the mouse.
The object is copied to the new location.
Important:
In certain
cases, the symbol appears to inform you
that you are making a copy (and not a move). This is the case when you attempt to drag
an object created in one context (that is, in one app) onto an object created in another context. Within
the same tab, the move is allowed only if the object onto which
you drop your object can be edited in the current context. For example, you cannot drag
a part onto a line in a sketch because the part and the sketch have been created in
different apps.
Optional:
Move the object, instead of copying it, by dragging it to the new location.
