Opening Content in Read Only

You can select the content of the tree structure to be loaded in the authoring tab using the Open in Read Only command.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin:
  • You cannot open in Read Only non-3DEXPERIENCE objects.
  • You cannot open in Read Only content created using 3DEXPERIENCE if its name contains national characters or forbidden special characters.
  • Visualization filters are not taken into account.
  • If the In-place mode is active when running the Open in Read Only command, the view (perspective or parallel) and the viewpoint of the navigation tab is applied to the authoring tab. But if the Turntable mode is active, the view (perspective or parallel) and the viewpoint of the authoring tab are not modified.

Open Selected Content in Read Only from a Navigation Tab

Before running the Open in Read Only command from a navigation tab, you can select the content to be loaded in the authoring tab.

  1. From a navigation tab, select the content you want to open (you can select multiple objects).
  2. Optional: If you are not already in the In-place mode, click Swap Turntable/In-place to take the viewpoint into account when loading objects in the authoring tab.
  3. Click Open in Read Only in the action bar.
    Tip: You can also right-click the content then select Open in Read Only.

    A progress bar is displayed and the selected content opens in a separate authoring tab.

    Important: The data loaded by the Open in Read Only command cannot be edited. In this case, a message stating "Read Only Tab. Modifications are not allowed in this window." is displayed. You can modify its position, and it will be restored during the next uses of the command. You can also modify the graphic properties of a representation, but the modifications are applicable only to the session and not in the database.

Open Selected Content in Read Only from Search Results

You can open existing content in Read Only from Search Results using the Open in Read Only command.

  1. From Search Results, select the object you want to open.
  2. Right-click the object then select Open with > Open in Read Only .

A progress bar is displayed (if necessary, you can click Cancel to stop the process) and the selected content opens in a separate tab:

Important:
  • The data loaded by the Open in Read Only command cannot be edited. In this case, a message stating "Read Only Tab. Modifications are not allowed in this window." is displayed. You can modify its position, and it will be restored during the next uses of the command. You can also modify the graphic properties of a representation, but the modifications are applicable only to the session and not in the database.
  • When you first use this command, the default options applied are those defined in the Open tab in Me > Preferences.
  • You can select multiple part references from the Search Results: in that case, each selected reference opens in a separate tab with an editor corresponding to its type (i.e. drawing, material, etc.).
  • If you are working in editability mode, some commands might be unavailable to prevent unwanted modifications.
