Specifying a Design Range

Specifying a design range involves changing the default design range. You can change the design range for products and 3D parts at creation and change it in the Design Limits tab in Me > Preferences.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Create either a physical product or a 3D part.
  • To enable the design range selection at creation, the Set attributes at creation for all types option must be selected.

Specify a Design Range Using Add > New Content

  1. From the top bar, select Add > Content.
The New Content dialog box appears. For more information about the New Content dialog box, see in the Native Apps Common Services User's Guide: Creating new Content.
  2. Create a physical product.
    1. To display the Creation dialog box, right-click Physical Product, and select Set attributes at creation.
    2. Click Physical Product.
The Physical Product creation dialog box with the attributes to be specified appears.
    3. Optional: Modify the design range option for the physical product. The default value reflects the design range option that is defined in Me > Preferences.
  3. Click OK.
Alternatively, create a 3D part and follow the same procedure. Note that in this case, you must modify the design range for both the 3D part and the 3D shape (two dedicated tab pages).

The physical product is created with the design range option specified Normal range, Small range, Large range or Extra large range.

Specify a Design Range Using Me > Preferences

You can change the default design range setting in Me > Preferences as well as define a set of units for each design range. For more information, see Customizing Preferences.

  1. Select the Parameters and Measures category in the left-hand box.
The options for Parameters and Measures are organized in tabs.
  2. Select the Design Limits tab
  3. Modify the design range option that will be applied at the next run of 3D parts and products creation:
    • Normal range: to create objects ranging from ranging from 0.001 mm to 1 km.
    • Large range: to create objects ranging from 0.1mm to 100 km.
    • Small range: to create objects ranging from 0.00001 mm to 0.1 km.
    • Extra large range: to create objects ranging from 10 mm to 10,000 km.
  4. Click OK.

The design range option is specified accordingly. It will be applied at the next run of the product and 3D part creation process.
