Using 3DMessaging

3DMessaging enables the rapid sharing of content and ideas between all participants across the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

3DMessaging Users and Groups

3DMessaging is a space in which you organize contacts with colleagues with whom you work.

To sign in (first method) In the top bar, click Me > My Status > Sign In Supported in a multi-platform environment only.
To sign in (second method) In the icon tray, right-click and select Sign In Supported in a multi-platform environment only.
To sign-out (first method) In the top bar, click Me > My Status > Sign Out Supported in a multi-platform environment only.
To sign-out (second method) In the icon tray, right-click and select Sign Out. Supported in a multi-platform environment only.
To select a platform If you have access to several platforms and have signed out, you must select a platform in the Select your platform list, and click Sign In. Supported in a multi-platform environment only.

To declare an availability status In the top bar, select Me > My Status and select a status.
  • Note: If you chat with someone and you become offline either because you have signed out from 3DMessaging or from the platform or because your network connection is lost, you can still retrieve your chat history at your next login.

    Click the profile of the contact with whom you have chatted to display your chat history.

To declare an availability status In the top left of 3DMessaging, select > My Status.
To search for a user Enter a user name in the search field. A list of users appears as you type. Click to close the search results.

In LAN mode, you can only search for users that are signed into 3DMessaging.

You must search for users using their username on the chat application defined in Me > Preferences > Connections > Collaboration > Network.

To create a group of users In 3DMessaging, click Edit and enter a group name.
To create a group of users Enter a user id in the box (as you type, lists of users will be proposed), click + on at least two users. Drag one of the users to the other one.
To add users to a group Enter a user id in the box (as you type, lists of users will be proposed), select a user from the list and drag it to the group to which you want to add it.
To add users to a group Enter a user id in the box (as you type, lists of users will be proposed), select a user from the list and drag it to the group to which you want to add it or click +.
To remove a user from a group Next to the user's name, click Delete
To remove a group Click Delete
To remove a user from a group Drag the user to the Drag contact here to delete section.
To remove a group Drag the group to the Drag contact here to delete.
To validate modifications made to groups Click the green check.
To rename a group Click the name of the group, and enter a new name.
To send an e-mail of your 3DMessaging session content In the 3DMessaging, click a user and click Send Mail Attachments extracted from the 3D context of your 3DMessaging session will be automatically generated.

Chatting and Collaborating

The Message Board enables you to exchange messages and content with colleagues or partners.

Objective Action Notes
To chat with a member In 3DMessaging, click the name of the person with whom you want to collaborate and click Start Chat
To chat with a member In 3DMessaging, click the name of the user with whom you want to chat.
  • If the user is offline:
    • If a chat panel is opened he receives your messages as if he were online.
    • If no chat panel is opened the buble of the inactive chat blinks. He can click the buble to display the latest messages.
  • If the user has signed out, you can enter a message that will be delivered the next time he logs in.
  • Click the header of the chat panel to pin a bubble of the chat on the right of 3DMessaging. Click again to restore the chat.
To chat / collaborate with multiple members In the 3DMessaging, select a group name and click Collaborate An n-way chat is launched between all members of the group. Once you are working in an n-way context, all HUD interactions will be n-way (for example, launching a Co-Review).
To clear all received messages In the Message Board, click Clear Messages
To copy chat text to the clipboard In the Message Board, click Copy To Clipboard
then To send the entire chat text to a user via email In the Message Board, click Copy To Clipboard and then click Send Mail
To send chat minutes via email In the Message Board, click Send Mail Chat minutes include any shared snapshots.
To make a video call In the Message Board, click Video Call. Your status becomes Busy. Your contact receives an Incoming video call alert message that he can answer or decline.

During the video call, you and your contact can click:

  • Mute microphone or Unmute.
  • Maximize to maximize the video call window.
  • Minimize to minimize the video call window.
  • Hide camera to stop broadcasting the video streaming.
  • Show Camera to restart the streaming.
  • Hang up to end the video call.
To make an audio call In the Message Board, click Audio Call. Your status becomes Busy. Your contact receives an Incoming call alert message that he can answer or decline.

During the audio call, you and your contact can click:

  • Mute microphone or Unmute.
  • Hang up to end the audio call.


To minimize 3DMessaging and any active chat message. In the 3DMessaging header, click minimize .
Tip: You can also click the header of 3DMessaging or chat message.
Click the bubble of 3DMessaging or chat message to restore them.


To go back when you select a group or the list of recent contacts. Click to go back.

Sharing Snapshots and Annotations

Collaborative Heads-Up Display (HUD) materializes the collaboration that occurs between two or more users within their session. The concept is to delimit the shared area with the Visor and to provide therein the tools that allow efficient communication and exchanges regarding problem context. The Visor also serves as a preview zone for incoming visual representations (for example image, geometry, snapshot).

Objective Action Notes
To launch a Heads-up Display (HUD) for collaboration In the 3DMessaging, click a user and click Start Chat
To send a snapshot Click Snapshot
To receive a snapshot Click the link 3D Snapshot The snapshot appears in your HUD, superimposed on any objects you might currently be viewing. If the received snapshot is larger than your HUD, then it will display outside the limit of your HUD.
To vary the opacity of a snapshot Drag the slider at the bottom of the HUD, for example completely to the right to superimpose it over any objects you might be viewing Details about snapshot exchange remain in the Message Board. You can re-open a snapshot at any time by clicking the corresponding message.

Click Freehand Brush, then click Circle Surround or Square Surround or Arrow, and drag Click Freehand Brush and drag directly to create a freehand line.
To deactivate an annotation type Click the annotation icon again or press the ESC key. Annotations disappear with undock and minimize actions on the HUD.
To delete annotations Click Erase Board
To copy the HUD content to the clipboard Click Copy
