Opening Content from a Navigation Tab

You can select the content of the tree structure to be loaded in the authoring tab using the Open and Open in New App commands.

These commands open the selected content in an authoring app that is already defined. If you open a type of content for the first time, the selected content opens in the default app for this type. Otherwise, the selected content opens in the app you last used for this type.

Notes:
  • You cannot open non-3DEXPERIENCE objects.
  • You cannot open content created using 3DEXPERIENCE if its name contains national characters or forbidden special characters.
  • Visualization filters are not taken into account.
  • If the In-place mode is active when running the Open command, the view (perspective or parallel) and the viewpoint of the navigation tab is applied to the authoring tab. But if the Turntable mode is active, the view (perspective or parallel) and the viewpoint of the authoring tab are not modified.
  • No element is locked at opening.
  • Representations open in Edit mode and are expanded.

For more information about the Open Command, the Open Advanced dialog box, Open in Read-only, SmartOpen, or Editability, see the 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Common Services: Opening Content.

You can also open content that is already loaded in a navigation tab in a specific authoring app using the Compass. For more information, see Switching Apps.

This task shows you how to:

Open Selected Content in Context from a Navigation Tab

You can select content in a navigation tab and load it in context of the root node in an authoring tab.

  1. From a navigation tab, select the content you want to open.

    You can select multiple elements.

  2. Optional: If you are not already in the In-place mode, click Swap Turntable/In-place to take the viewpoint into account when loading objects in the authoring tab.
  3. Click Open in the action bar.
    Tip: You can also:
    • Press Ctrl+O
    • Right-click the content, and then select Open.

The selected content is expanded and opened in a separate authoring tab.

    Tips:
    • Any content you open afterward from the navigation tab with the same root node will be placed under the root node in the same authoring tab.
    • If you want to open only one or more representations without the corresponding reference, you can expand the structure and select the ones you want to load. Only the selected representations will be opened in the authoring tab.

    Important:
    • By default, only the selected elements are opened in their context with their design specifications.
    • When a filter or a configuration is applied, the filtered references and representations are taken into account. The defined filter (if any) is taken into account when the structure is expanded. Only the representations that match the filtering criteria are displayed and loaded.
    • If you select objects in different instances of a multi-instantiated node, all of them are loaded under each instance in the authoring tab. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Advanced Services User's Guide: Native Apps Common Services: Opening Content: About the Open Command.

Open Selected Content As Root from a Navigation Tab

You can select content in a navigation tab and load it as root in an authoring tab.

  1. From a navigation tab, select the content you want to open.

    You can select multiple elements.

  2. Right-click the select content, and then select Open in New App.
The selected content is opened and expanded in a separate authoring tab. If you selected several objects, they are opened in separate authoring tabs.
    Note:
    • When a filter or a configuration is applied on the root node in the navigation tab, they are not taken into account when opening the content. All the children of the selected objects are opened in an authoring tab, even if some of them are filtered out in the navigation tab.
    • The representations aggregated by the opened structure are also loaded. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Common Services: Opening Content: About the Open Command .

Open Visible Content from a Navigation Tab

You can define the exact structure to be loaded in context of the root node in an authoring tab to open only the visible content.

  1. From a navigation tab, expand the structure.
  2. Required: Use the appropriate Product Finder commands to specify the tree structure.
    • Keep or Remove. See Product Finder User's Guide: Keeping and Removing Selected Branches.
    • Unload. See Product Finder User's Guide: Exploring Objects, Exploring Objects, Unload Objects.
    • Filter . See Product Finder User's Guide: Filtering Data.
  3. Optional: If you are not already in the In-place mode, click Swap Turntable/In-place to take the viewpoint into account when loading objects in the authoring tab.
  4. Click Open in the action bar.
The content opens in a separate authoring tab with the same visible structure as the one defined in the navigation tab.
    Important:
    • Only design representations are loaded. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Common Services: Opening Content: About the Open Command.
    • Representations are not displayed in their dedicated editors.
    • If you select objects in different instances of a multi-instantiated node, all of them are loaded under each instance in the authoring tab. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Advanced Services User's Guide: Native Apps Common Services: Opening Content: About the Open Command.
