Opening Content from Search Results

You can open existing content from Search Results using the Open command or the Compass.

The Open command opens the selected content in an app that is already defined. If you open a type of content for the first time, the selected content opens in the default app for this type. Otherwise, the selected content opens in the app you last used for this type. The Compass enables you to select the app in which you want to open the selected content.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • You cannot open non-3DEXPERIENCE objects.
  • You cannot open an object created using 3DEXPERIENCE if its name contains national characters or forbidden special characters.
  • Visualization filters are not taken into account.

Open Content Using the Open Command

  1. From Search Results, select the object you want to open.

    Tip: You can select multiple part references from the Search Results. In that case, each selected reference opens in a separate tab with an editor corresponding to its type (such as drawing or material).

  2. Click Open in the action bar.
    Tip: You can also run the Open command by taking one of the following steps:
    • Press Ctrl+O
    • Right-click the object, and then select Open

A progress bar is displayed and the selected content opens in a separate tab.

Important:
  • When you first use this command, the default options applied are those defined in the Open tab in Me > Preferences.
  • If you are working in editability mode, some commands might be unavailable to prevent unwanted modifications.
Note: The remaining time shown on the progress bar is an estimated time. This estimated time might not reflect the actual time needed to perform the open operation. For example, in case of an unexpected issue such as server overloading, the duration of an operation can vary.

Open Content in a Specific Authoring App

Before you begin: The app must be compliant with the selected content.
  1. From Search Results, select the object you want to open.

    Tip: You can select multiple objects from the Search Results. In that case, selected objects open in the selected app in separate tabs.

  2. Click the Compass.
  3. Click an authoring app icon.

The selected content opens in the selected app.
