Managing Subtrees

You can display the subtree of the item you select then hide or show it when required.

This task shows you how to:

Open Subtrees

You can display the subtree of a selected item in a dedicated pop-up panel.

Before you begin:
  • This functionality is not available for all apps. For example, you cannot use it when working with Drafting or Material Definition.
  • Multiselection is not supported.
  • By default, the size of the subtree panel depends on the product name and when several panels are open, they can have different positions. To specify the same position and size for all subtree panels, select the Same preferences for all subtree panels option in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > User Interface > Tree > Tree Appearance.
  1. With the tree visible, click a representation then right-click and select Open Subtree.
A panel containing the subtree of the selected item is displayed.

This panel is named after the top-level element contained in the tab from which the command has been run.

    Notes:
    • The subtree panel is a pop-up dialog: it is used for visualizing subtrees during the session but it is not kept from one session to another.
    • You cannot open the same subtree several times. If you try to do so, the panel of the subtree you are trying to reopen is displayed in the foreground.
  2. Press F3.
The tree is hidden but the subtree panel is still visible.
  3. Press F3 again.
    The tree is displayed.
  4. In the subtree panel, click a + sign next to one of the subcategories then select an element.
The element is highlighted in both the subtree panel and the tree but also in the 3D.
  5. Optional: Right-click an element from the subtree panel then use the contextual commands.
The commands available from the context menu are identical to those displayed when right-clicking the element directly from the tree.
  6. In the tree, select another element then right-click and select Open Subtree.
The new panel is superposed onto the panel you opened previously and appears in the foreground.
  7. To close a subtree, click the cross in the top-right corner of the panel.
When working with multiple tabs, you need to activate a tab to show all the subtrees that have been opened for this tab, the last activated subtree being displayed in the foreground. Inversely, when a tab is not active anymore, all the subtrees linked to this tab are hidden.

View Subtrees

You can hide or show the subtrees that are opened for the active tab using the Open Subtree command. You can also work simultaneously with multiple tabs, for example a tab in which subtrees are visible, and a tab in which subtrees are hidden.

Before you begin:
  • This command is not available in Drafting and V4 Integration.
  • The Subtrees command impacts only subtrees created at the time the command is run.
  1. With the tree visible, right-click an element then select Open Subtree.
  2. Select another element then right-click and select Open Subtree.
  3. Right-click then select Display.
The Subtrees command is now available because at least one subtree has been opened for the active tab and the display of subtrees is active. This means that all the subtrees opened for the active tab are displayed.
  4. Select Subtrees.
This turns off the display of subtrees.
  5. Right-click then select Display > Subtrees again.
The two previously opened subtrees are now displayed.
    Important:
    • When working with multiple tabs, the Display > Subtrees command only affects the active tab.
    • Selecting Display > Tree Overview has no effect on subtrees because this command hides/shows only the tree of the active tab.
